ACHIEVING YOUR HEALTH GOALS FOR 2018
I know many of us are health conscious or have realised that we are having an unusual weight gain, hence resolved to lose weight, exercise regularly and also eat healthfully in 2017
This is a great inclusion and a laudable idea to set health goals aside goals for our career,spiritual and social life. We need to ensure that the wheel of life is balanced always.
New Year was like yesterday,we are now in the 41st day of the year and we have already exhausted the first month of the year.
How far have you come in achieving the health and fitness goals you set for yourself this year?
Do you feel like giving up on your workout sessions, relapsing to the habit of late night eating, eating those fat burgers or the finger licking ice creams.
Don’t give up when you fail to see the immediate results , you would make headway .Change is a process not an event.
In this article I would share with you some reasons why some people are unable to achieve the health goals they set for themselves as part of their new year resolutions
TOP 5 REASONS WHY YOU MAY NOT ACHIEVE YOUR HEALTH GOALS.
1. LESS SPECIFIC AND UNDEFINED HEALTH GOALS.
The more specific and clearly defined your health and fitness goals, the more likely you would be able to achieve them. For example , I want to lose 2 kg in a month or exercise 30 minutes 3 days in a week.
Do you want to exercise regularly ? Be specific!! The more specific your health goals, the better. It would help you to stay focused.
2. SETTING TOO MANY GOALS ,LESS FOCUS.
It is good to be ambitious, however we need to be realistic in our goal setting. Be ambitious but practical. Set goals that are realistic. Setting an achievable health goal obviously makes it realistic. Change is a process, so be realistic . How many goals can you really focus on?
Choose the health goals that are of priority and don’t introduce another until you’ve achieved the one at hand.

3. SETTING HEALTH GOALS INCOMPATIBLE TO YOUR LIFE.
Be realistic about your health and fitness goals. If your work life is very time-consuming, hitting the gym every morning would not be feasible. It is best you do that after work or workout on weekends.
You cannot quit smoking if you are still in the company of smokers or you have not found another habit to replace it , you are likely to relapse when there is the urge to smoke. Gradually increase your workout time as you get time on your side or gradually give yourself some allowance.
Change is a process not an event!!!!
4. NO ACCOUNTABILITY
Without accountability, health and fitness goals would be difficult to achieve. Get yourself an accountability partner ! Share with your family and friends your health goals for the year, so that they can serve as a check on you.This can be very helpful if your accountability partner is someone you see very often.You can serve also as an accountability partner for the fellow you are working with on achieving a health goal. ie.losing weight, quit smoking or exercise regularly
You also need to take responsibility for yourself, it’s for your own good.
Keep a journal and document your progress. Observing a gradual improvement will keep you motivated in achieving your goals.
5. REFUSAL TO SET DEADLINE.
A smart health goal is not of much use unless it is timely . Deadlines provide a sense of purpose and direction. A goal with a deadline keeps you focused.This helps you to monitor and evaluate your progress to ensure you are on track.
Reward yourself when you finally achieve your health goals.
Remember that health is not the absence of illness or infirmity but a state of complete physical, mental and social wellbeing.
A better solution is to work with a dietitian to create a realistic plan considering your individual needs ,that would be effective for you in achieving your health goals.
